VASRA is still looking for People interested in becoming rowing referees. The first step in becoming a Referee is to become a Referee Candidate.
The duties of a Referee Candidate allow the interested person to observe all of the positions that a Referee could be assigned to during a regatta. No advance study or knowledge is required. A brief synopsis of duties performed by a Referee Candidate can be found here.
If anybody is interested in becoming a Referee Candidate, U.S. Rowing will be holding a Referee Clinic in Northern Virginia. In addition to meeting some of the terrific people that are referees, there is a breakout session targeted at Referee Candidates. It is an informal session designed to answer any questions for those interested in becoming a Referee. The clinic will be held on Saturday, February 14th starting at 8:30 A.M. The location of the clinic is 8110 Gatehouse Road, Suite 100 East Falls Church, VA. Light refreshments will be served.
Please distribute this message to your organization. The number of Rowing Referees is declining at the same time that the popularity of the sport is increasing. If we don’t have enough trained Referees it will affect the fairness and safety of, and maybe the ability to hold, regattas.
