USROWING LOSES SRAA, IRA AND THEIR REGATTAS

The USRowing membership requirement that SafeSport has exclusive jurisdiction over all matters involving Sexual Misconduct and Child Abuse is not acceptable to VASRA member administrators. Jurisdiction in these areas must be determined by school authorities. Therefore, Organizational Membership in USRowing is not an option for teams governed by our association's school districts.

VASRA remains dedicated to the protection and safety of all participants at our regattas. Our measures continue to safeguard the well-being and safety of our student athletes, in alignment with the policies of their respective schools.

Statement from SRAA Board of Directors

The Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Board of Directors approved not renewing organizational membership with USRowing. The SRAA National Championship regatta will take place in Camden New Jersey at the Cooper River from May 23-24, 2025. SRAA will provide insurance for the regatta including all participants and volunteers. SRAA will not require USRowing Association Organizational or individual  membership to participate in the SRAA National Championship regatta. The purpose of the Association is to promote, encourage and support rowing at secondary schools in  the Commonwealth of Virginia and in particular the Northern Virginia area; to provide for communication and coordination amongst its member and associate teams, the Local Organizing Committees, the Crew Council, and the Coaches Committee; and to sponsor and conduct scholastic rowing competitions.
